Are kidney infections deadly?

I need to know because I had a kidney infection (probably still have it) & I got really sick but I thought it was the medication giving me these symptoms but it was the kidney infection. So, I stopped taking the medicine(Nitrofur) because I almost went toxic & the doctor said my body has become immune to the medicine. Well anyways, Are kidney infections deadly?

Only if they go untreated.

Then you put your name on the list for a Kidney Transplant or expect Dialysis.

If this doctor is treating you then I am sure with proper follow-up on your part it will not go untreated.

Left untreated, kidney infections can cause serious damage to the kidneys and then dialysis is in order. Go to the dr asap!

A simple cut on the finger can be deadly, so it depends on the type and longevity of the infection, plus your immune system. If the infection damages the kidneys bad enough, the dialysis and transplant is the only way to live, yet the vast majority of kidney infections are more nuisance than deadly. Keep up on it to avoid "going to the dark side".

depends on what kind. infections of the urinary tract is usually mild unless the kidney itself becomes infected, usually when the infection spreads from the lower tract meaning the urethra or the opening where you urinate up to the bladder, ureter then finally the kidney. If it is not treated, just like any type of infection, it can getr worse and spread through your blood to the different parts of the body causing severe infection. Make sure you have the right antibiotics, but first make sure you have the infection.
a simple urinalysis can tell you if you have one, then an ultrasound of the kidneys will tell you the state of your kidney function like creatinine and uric acid levels in the blood.

Any infection can potentially be deadly, especially if left untreated.

Absolutely! My mother had a stroke in 2003 and when we were in the ICU we met a man whose wife had a Kidney Infection and didnt take all her medicine, well the infection went into her blood stream and into her brain and now her husband was given the choice, either unplug her now and she will die immediately or leave her plugged in for 2 days so he could call family and have them come up to say their last goodbyes, then they would unplug her and she would die. She was basically dead, the machines were just breathing for her. It was the saddest thing ever. She was 34 and had 3 kids. You should always take your anti-biotics, otherwise your body will become imune to them and you will get an infection that can't be cured by any thing.
