Kidney Infections?

I have been having symptoms of cramping in the pelvic area, fullness and bloating and being tired for the past two weeks. I went to the doctor yesterday and she had me give her a urine sample. She informed me that I had a kidney infection and put me on Cipro 500mg 2x a day for 10 days. I am shocked because I have had bladder infections in the past and usually have burning with urination and this time I don't. My questions is can you have kidney infection without the burning when you urinate?

Well, yes you can.

The bladder and the kidney are two separate organs.
With bladder infections, one usually feels full, but does not actually urinate that much. You can sometimes have burning while you urinate with a bladder infection, however, it is more commonly associated with Urinary Tract Infections.
Kidney infections are usually more serious than bladder or UTI's because left untreated, it can lead to serious complications, such as renal failure. More often than not, when one has a kidney infection, there is alot of discomfort in the lower back.
Cipro is a good choice.. it is a strong antiobiotic and you should start to feel better soon. Just be sure to take your medication with lots of water(and because you have a kidney infection.. drink lots of water to flush your kidneys out!!)

Hope you feel better soon.

Yup. I had a terrrrrrible kidney infection once and I had no symptoms whatsoever until about 5 days into it when they all hit me at once. I feel your pain!! :) Get well soon!

Tests are test. Drink cranberry juice. You'll feel better in a couple of hours.
