What causes kidney infections????

I have a kidney infection, i have had it sice around the 14th of october, it started as a UTI, and it hurts really bad, i have a doctor appointment today, my mom says sex causes it, but im not sure about that. and can it be fatal? the 14th was a long time ago, and im afraid its messed up my kidneys or something. i dont know. eek!!

Kidney infections are caused by different factors. Untreated UTIs can lead to kidney infection too. Untreated glomerulonephritis and sore throat brought by streptococcus bacterias can also lead to renal infection (check the pathophysiology of kidney diseases), and long standing kidney stones also caused infection of the kidneys.. It also developed as a secondary illness to people suffering from diabetes mellitus or chronic hypertension.

eek indeed. This one traveled up the ureters to your kidneys. Can be caused by sex, if somebody is not clean, or if its real rough with not much lube. You need kidneys to live, but its easily treatable usually.

Bacteria, germs etc which do not belong in the UTI can cause an infection if they are transferred, particularly if there is any tissue damage. So the friction caused by sex can cause it. Wiping yourself rather vigorously or the 'wrong way around' can transfer germs from the anus.

If you think sex is the cause then you should talk to your mum about it and remeber you minimise the risks of any infection by using condoms. Sorry for the lecture! ;-)

Ive had kidney infections all my life and cokes or anything with a lot of caffeine's will cause a kidney infection but cranberry juice helps alot and water!
