Kidney Infections, how can you be sure?

I went to the doc having the same symptoms that I had a year ago when I went to 3 different hospitals and no one could tell me what was wrong with me. This time they said it is a "upper" kidney infection "probably" . What else could give you severe pain in your kidneys when breathing, a high fever, nausea, chills, bodyaches, severe headache and sensitivity to light? Is there something else that could be wrong with my kidneys that would show on a urine test that there was infection of some kind? (btw- I have no abdominal discomfort or burning with urination like you would normally get with something like they claim I have) I have been taking BActrim for 3 days and my kidneys still are hurting very badly they gave me 5 pills of 5mg lortab and said to take 1/2 of of one every 8 hours, even though I couldn;t even walk at the time I was there I had been in excrutiating pain for 2 days. I can barely hold down water or gatorade and I am just curious what someone else thinks..

last time they did do an ivp and ultrasound and x-ray and couldn't see anything.......this time they did bloodwork a urine analysis and an x-ray so they said they didn't see anything in the x-ray, but I just feel like something else is wrong....this pain is horrible when I walk or even take a breath.

I think you need another opinion and some more testing. You could have a stone or cystitis or you could have a blockage of some kind that wouldn't show up on any tests but an IVP! My long ago boyfriend went through this very thing until he finally got so mad and told them to do more testing, an IVP to be exact, and they did find a blockage near his kidney! Try another doctor and ask for more testing. Don't take NO for an answer. No reason you should be in pain like this because someone is to busy to do further testing.~
