I have had 3 kidney infections in the last 4 months. What could that indicate?

I do EVERYTHING the doctor says to do in order to prevent infection relapses - take all antibiotic pills, drink at least 8oz of water a day, do not have intercourse - and 2 weeks after I finish my antibiotics, I have the same pain again that induces vomiting and fatigue. I have never had a urinary tract or bladder infection - or at least I never noticed any discomfort associated with the two.

Could my doctor be misdiagnosing me? What else could this be?

I JUST got over the exact same problem. He's probably not misdiagnosing you. Chances are first off that youre prone to them, I am. I went through 3 rounds of antibiotics. They need to send your urine in for a culture to see what antibiotics the bacteria is RESISTENT to. Turned out that my first two rounds only helped a little bit temporarily because the bacteria was resistent to that kind (watch out for cipro especially).

Finally they sent my urine in for a culture to check that, and put me on another antibiotic that cleared it up...

I still had some pain even after the infection was gone, but if this happens to you dont worry about it just let your doc know.. mine said that the infection was there for so long that it kindof damaged something and my urinary tract needed time to heal.

For the time being and maybe even from now on you need to be drinking cranberry juice... or you can actual cranberry pills (I take them because i HATE cranberry juice..) The acid in them helps keep bacteria from sticking to the walls of your urinary tract and bladder. Hope this helps!!

Part of the problem is that you are only drinking 8oz of water per day. Try increasing this to around 64oz of water.

Do you think you could be possibly using a restroom where someon has a bladder infection ? Try using Lysol and ask your doctor if you can double dose. Don't reccomend it until asking your doctor.

Try a different antibiotic. I take Cipro for bladder infections. See a urologist he specializes in such matters.

You could make an appointment with a urologist. They can maybe give you a different viewpoint on this. There could be many reasons. You could try drinking cranberry juice and see if that helps. Sometimes if your bladder doesn't empty completely after voiding, then you can get infections. Or your immune system could be down, causing you to be more susceptible to any infections at all.Or you could be an undiagnosed diabetic..and they get infections easily when their sugar is out of whack.

get a second opinion from another doctor. use protection when having sex, if it is something that has to do with that, you could be reinfected by your partner. Have your sugars checked, and get another type of urine test.
