Kidney Infection Question. Please read?

My girlfriend has had two kidney infections in the past two months. this second time, her doctor wants to do pelvic exams and "explore" her vagina... what could kidney infections have to do with that?

What could cause this second kidney infection? wedmd said nothing.

Hey the reason why the doctor would probably want to do a pelvic exam is due to the fact that the urethra on a girl is very close to the vagina. the urethra on a women is only about 1 11/2 long making it very easy to spread infection why girls get so many urinary tract infections. If your girlfriend has had a recent vaginal infection when wiping with toilet paper it could have spread up into her urethra possibly causing the kidney infection, unfortunatley girls like I said can be prone to having frequent infections down there where as guys have it much different. For the second infection it could be caused by the same bacteria that had started the first kidney infection. Since the kidneys are connected by ureters where the urine travels from the kidneys to the bladder if she has had a urinary tract infection it could possibly spread to both kidneys. There could be a number of reasons for both, but I hope this helps I am an ER nurse so bieleve me I have helped and seen so many kidney problems and vaginal exams it can be a commom occurence hope she feels better!

well she may not be passing all the pee she needs 2 at once so each time she goes some of the stail pee is left over

also having a kidney infection can make the bladder clamp down 2 hard causing a bladder Infection

don't worry the doc wasnt copping a feel there may have been something wrong with the muscles holding her bladder shut her vagina is just part of the machinery

he's just making sure it works right
