Kidney vs. Bladder Infection?

When I was in 5th grade I used to get horrible kidney infections to the point of hospitalization. In 6th grade I had stones but they were passable and I didn't have to get them "blasted." This continued yearly until 9th grade, and I'm now in 10th grade.

I used to not get bladder infections before my kidney infections. I would go directly from being well to being sick, it seemed. But now I only get bladder infections, which is kind of weird. And some people say that untreated UTIs become kidney infections, but do you know why I used to get no UTIs and only kidney infections?

Bacterial UTIs can be classified according to localization as urethritis (urethra), cystitis (bladder), or pyelonephritis (kidney). In men, prostatitis may mimic or complicate UTI. Alternatively, UTI can be classified by the presence (symptomatic) or absence (asymptomatic) of symptoms.

Asymptomatic bacteriuria is characterized by >= 105 colony-forming units (CFU)/mL without dysuria, urinary frequency, incontinence of recent onset, flank pain, fever, or other signs of infection during the week preceding the time the urine sample was obtained. Small numbers of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) are common. Only about 70% of asymptomatic patients with high colony counts in a single urine sample have true bacteriuria as confirmed by the second sample.

That's why. There's always UTI before kidney infection.
