Possible kidney infection?... what should I do...?

I rarely get UTI's and they normally clear up on their own within a few days but I got one 3 weeks ago that wouldnt go away... then my back started hurting... so I went to a free clinic (I wait tables to pay for my rent and school so I dont have much money to spare) and they gave me an antibiotic... I seemed to be okay but the other night I woke up feeling very nauseated and trembling uncontrollably... with chills going through my body... I didnt throw up though, I calmed down and went back to sleep, now I seem to be okay again... I dont know what to do though... I'm worried, I've read about the complications of kidney infections but I'm scared, I dont have the money to take care of this right now, should it be a kidney infection...

Go back to the clinic and ask them.

I know what it is like to be without health insurance. Sucks.

But, if the people at the clinic think you should see a doctor then go to the er. They are a bit more flexable with the bills and will work out a payment plan for you. It may be expensive but it is your health so it is worth it.

Good luck, I hope it is nothing.

OMG go to the doctor Right Now!!!!!!!!!!

If one side of your back in the middle is hurting, then it is your kidney.

Just keep on your antibiotics and maybe it was something unrelated to your kidney.

Bad food can have the same effect, but you probably have no choice but to wait it out. If your kidney was getting worse, you would feel it in your back, one would think, along with the possibility of having blood in your urine. hopefully it was something unrelated to your kidney and something not too serious.

I know its hard to decide what to do in these situations when you are on a tight budget.

good luck!!

u should go for nefrectomy

continue with your antibiotics... it's the most important thing to do now. if you don't, the infection could indeed damage the kidney or spread to the body causing sepsis. it will be worth spending some money for your antibiotics now because if you don't take your meds now, you'd end up spending more. take ur meds, get some rest and drink lots of water.

See a nephrologist. That should not be taken for granted. Remember, "an ounce of prevention is worth a thousand pound of cure."

you may not have all of these but here are the symptoms and signs.

back, side, and groin pain;
urgent, frequent urination;
pain or burning during urination;
fever;
nausea and vomiting; and
pus and blood in the urine

also if the clinic did not do a urine test, and or an ultrasound (kidney stones show on this test) than they don't know if you have a kidney infection, this test must be performed to diagnose. Kidney infections come from untreated UTI's. if you have been on the antibiotics for more than 2 days and you are not feeling better than it is time to go to the emergency room, your health means more than any amount of money, prolonging treatment if the condition is reoccurring or not getting better can be detrimental, and cause permanent kidney damage. Infections do not go away without treatment.
