Is bactrim or septra effective against a kidney infection?

I've been told two different things....A. that they can be used for a kidney infection B. It is only used for bladder infections and cannot be used for kidney. Which is correct?

In the past Bactrim or Septra was the main drug used for urinary tract infections. However, in recent years the bacteria that cause these infections have become increasingly resistant to Septra.

Drugs like Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin, and Nitrofurantoin are more frequently used now, especially if there is a concern the infection has spread up from the bladder to the kidneys.

See your physician if there are ongoing concerns.

Don't guess. Go to your doctor. He/She will prescribe the right medicine.

I know from experience that septra works for a kidney infection very well.
