What causes a kidney infection?

i have had 3 kidney infections in the past 2 months...... and now i think i have another one!

I suffer from recurring bladder infections and once I got a kidney infection because bladder infections often turn into kidney infections when left untreated. Are you getting symptoms of bladder infections and not going to the Dr.? Also, some people don't get symptoms, so I guess that could be the case with you. I know that sex can cause bladder and kidney infections because the rubbing and friction can take bacteria from the vagina and the penis and rub it into your clitoral area and cause infection in the bladder and/or kidneys. If you think this may be causing it, you and your partner need to shower or at least wipe down there with a baby wipe prior to sex, and then you need to shower afterwards. What you probably need is to see a doctor and discuss why this is recurring and they need to run some tests to see if there's any other underlying problems with your kidneys. This is serious, and not something to mess around with, so please get it checked out asap. If your doctor doesn't seem to know what they are doing, ask for a referral to a specialist, like a urologist. Good luck.

when bacteria (probably from the digestive tract) gets into the kidneys and grows. i've had a lot of them. my left kidney no longer works because it failed due to a kidney infection.

i know if you breathe something like spray paint or you are around a place thats toxic.

bacteria colonizing an area that they shoudnt be in, it can be caused by poor hygene, kidney stones, or some sort of anatomical abnormality, talk to your doctor because that is too frequent

Lots of things:
1. You have sex with someone who was not properly hygiened.
2. Spicy food
3. You do not properly wipe yourself after bowel movements.
4. Alcohol (excessive amount)
5. LAck of water intake
I would really read #1 again though............

pyelonephritis or kidney infection is most commonly due to infection by the bacteria Escherichia coli. E. coli is a normal intestinal bacteria that grows rapidly, foun in fecal matter, can arise from poor genital hygiene
Treatment- antibotic therapy, antipyretics,

i know from personal experience i was getting them from cheap toilet paper leaving residue and causin a infection, so i got femine personal wipes and that has helped a lot, it would be on the aisle with the summer eve products and wipes

Usually it is a bacterial problem. The bacteria can spread up the urethra (the passage which carries urine from the kidneys to the outside of the body). If you are a female, which I assume you are, the most common causes can be from introduction of bacteria by incorrect wiping after going to the bathroom and oral sex performed on you.
To have this many infections in the past months, it could be the original infection hasn't completely cleared up. If you are taking medication to get rid of it, but absolutely certain you take ALL of the medication as directed. DO NOT stop because the symptoms subside. If you have taken the medicine as directed and the infection recurs, you may be dealing with a resistant strain of bacteria. Your doctor will help you find a medication to solve this problem. Be persistant. Prayer can also help...
