Kidney failure. Any advice? |
My mother has kidney failure and is sufferring from recurrent infections which are leaving her weak, nauseous and in pain. Sha has one bug which can't be treat with antibiotics, but currently has a second which she is recieving treatment. Does anyone have any advice on what she can take, avoid or eat to make her feel more comfortable? We are going on holiday very soon and I would like to get her as fit as possible before we go away. We've been looking forward to this for a year and she deserves a good rest in the sun. My mother is not eligible for transplant as she has too many other medical problems so 'they' wont add her to any lists. She is attending a pre dialysis clinic at the moment and her function is a little over 10% so it wont be long before she starts dialysis. I just wondered if there was anything else I could doto make her more comfortable. how sweet you are..... i love you already. i'm glad i could help your mood, if nothing else. i hope you and mom have a great time! Report It Get on donors list. This website has some excellent suggestions: Hi I have kidney failure and do peritoneal dialysis at home. What to eat depends on a lot of different things because kidney disease take on different characteristics. For example lots of peopel are told to limit their fluids while lots more are told to increase their fluids. Some people are told no salt, no alcohol, no caffine and some aren't. So it is real important that you should ask your nephrologist about diet, I imagine their nurse will put you right anyway. If she jsut has kidney insufficency and not true kidney failure then limit salt, and alcohol, anything spicy or anythin with alocohol. she should be on a low salt, low protein diet and should not drink too much fluids if her urine volume is low.i can't help you more because i don't know what caused the renal failure in the first place and if she is taking any other drugs like steroids or immunosuppressors for example, sorry...but she should keep taking her antibiotics regularly and she should not go to crowded places since she is immunodeficient most probably.have her wear a mask and try not using public toilets as much as possible. I think your idea to take her away on a vacation sounds very nice, but I think you need to consider whether there will be good medical care at your destination. If she is right on the verge of dialysis, is having untreatable infections, and is very uncomfortable at this time, she is in an unstable state and should not be too far away from a reliable hospital with reliable dialysis, just in case. I hope she does feel better soon, so that there is less risk, and I hope it all works out. Its a shame but transplant are a bit like winning the lottery and from what you say your mum will not be offered one so she needs to come to terms with she will always be on dialosis. Good luck with your holiday. Make sure you get as much advice as you can from your GP/hospital, You will also need to take out extra insurance for your mum as regular travel insurance wont work because of her ongoing health issues. As a person that has had serious health problems for over 10 years. until I tried this about 18 months ago. I cannot recommend anything more highly for changing ones health, have a listen go to www.thehealingcodes.com I know you will be glad you did. |
