Is there any support groups for kidney failure where someone actually went through it? |
I have an Aunt who has kidney failure and is waiting to have her last kidney replaced. She has been looking for other people who might want to share their experiances about their own kidney transplants. Any information would help ease her tension. The AAKP (American Association of Kidney Patients) has a free magazine and free online newsletter that include inspirational stories from other kidney patients. It also includes dietary tips and other medical information for kidney patients with or without diabetes. I wish your aunt well. :-) She may want to contact the National Kidney Foundation and see if they can direct her to a group in her area. Tell her I said good health soon. NKF (National Kidney Foundation) at www.kidney.org is a great organization. Well I'm not sure but I think NKFW (National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin) is actually a chapter of this organization and they are wonderful. I grew up with kidney disease and was on dialysis for 8 years and had 3 unsuccessful transplants between 1983 and 1992 before receiving a successful one from my mom in 1992. If you go to that website (www.kidney.org) and click on "find local offices & events" red link in upper right hand corner it brings up the page of the US map and you can either type in your zip code or click on a state to find the office for your state and contact them. My state has their particular website (www.kidneywi.org) as well as the contact info, yours probably does too. Check it out, it has been wonderful for my parents when they raised me. |
