Does protein (mainly drinks) cause kidney failure?

My dr. has told me my creatinine levels were slightly above ave. and he wasn't sure if it was due to muscle turnover or if my kidneys weren't in great shape as is... He told me it's not suggested to take any protein supplements cuz it puts extra work on my kidneys, however if I wanted to then it was up to me... he wants me to wait 2 months and I have sum highschool records to break and I'm already behind, so does anyone know if it's the excess amount of unused protein that could cause kidney failure or alike problems... or if it's kool to take it as long as I'm not intaking too much?

before I say anything, keep in mind you are getting an advice from a doctor that had the opportunity to see your test results, so you should rely on his advice more than on mine or any other advice you get on this website.

Im not a doctor, but I know about kidney failure. creatinine levels could be high due to several factors. usually it can be related to muscle breakdown, or excess protein intake.
if you are not taking protein supplements, keep it like that, it probably doesnt make you that good anyway. average americans eat way more protein than they think they need, so dont worry about protein deficiency. just keep eating a healthy diet.
One thing I could advice is to make sure you are getting enough carbohydrates on your diet, since this will spare your protein for what its meant to do, and not get converted to glucose to fuel up your brain.
when you dont get enough carbs, you will have some muscle wasting because the protein ends up becoming glucose after several biochemical reactions, thus leading to an increase in creatinine.

breaking some highschool records is not worth risking your kidneys... trust me I though kidneys were supposed to filtrate urine and thats it, but after a nutrition pathophysiology class I took... I realized how greatful I should be for having healthy kidneys...

I would say dont push it, because after all you will only know if you took too much after you see the detrimental effects of doing it.
hope your kidneys work well !!!
