If you or someone close to you has experienced Kidney failure, what were the first symptoms something was wron

What tests do the Doctors run to diagnose Kidney failure?

When I first noticed I was having problems, I was tired a lot, thirsty a lot and ached a lot. When it got more serious, and my body was filling with the toxins that my kidneys weren't getting rid of, the first symptoms got worse, and I also was out of breathe a lot, was exhausted all the time, everything hurt, and my eyes were dilated all the time, and I went blind for awhile.
The first test(s) they ran were several different blood tests, which tell a lot about what's going on inside your body. With the blood tests they found I was suffering kidney failure, and did further tests to find out why and how to best treat it.

My grandfather had kidney failure and the first symptom was nausea. He threw up quite a bit. Also his urine became less and less.

They do blood tests to test kidney function and also to test the levels in your blood of the various chemicals that the kidneys normally filter out. This way they can tell whether the kidneys are doing their job or not, and how well they're doing it. Based on the results of the test they diagnose you with like a borderline failure, severe failure, etc. They then decide whether there's a chance that your kidneys will recover their function or not. If not, then dialysis (artificial cleansing of the blood outside the body) may be needed.
