Does diabetic retinopathy and kidney failure go hand in hand? |
I have had laser treatments and a vitrectomy, but my sugars have been well controlled since I left university...my kidney's are fine, but I heard that the 2 go together and the kidney problems is inevitable.? Type 1 and 2 diabetes can cause many secondary conditions over time. Retinopathy is one of them, but there are many others, including peripheral neuropathies and renal problems. Having one secondary condition does not necessarily mean that you will develop another, but if your diabetes is not well controlled, you increase your odds of other problems. Your best chance is to try to control your blood sugar as much as possible. Not really, some people get just the kidney problems or the eye problems & some get both. Make an appointment with your Opthamologist (eye doctor) ASAP. Just to be sue. No, they do not have to go together, but they can. You can have one but not the other. YES!! you can kidney problems along with heart , blindness, amputation and other problems from SUGAR DIEBETES . |
