What kind of physician one should look for kidney related diseases? |
My friend is suspecting kidney stone by the kind of symptoms he read in net. He is confused whether to go to a general physician or some specialist. What such specialists are called as? Please suggest some to help him out. He should be able to just go to his personal physician and they will either do a sonogram or cat scan to test for kidney stones. A physician who specializes in kidneys is a Nephrologist. My daughter goes to one at Scott and White medical center in Temple, Tx. Nephrologist You can consult to a Urologist, which are specialist in urine flow problems, blockage, and/or damage related conditions, which covers kidney stones. You can see a Nephrologist first to determine kidney malfunction or disorders. Plus urologists can also do operations like stone removals if one is detected. good luck! In most cases you would need to be referred to a specialist by a general (family) physician. A medical doctor who has specialized in the kindeys is a nephrologist. However, in many communities there isn't the need for a physician that only specializes in nephrology. In these cases, you may be referred to an internist, a urologist, or another doctor that has opted to take patients with kidney concerns a urologist would be a specialist, but a general practioner could certainly treat the symptoms. a specialist may be consulted if your friend is unable to pass the stone and a procedure would need to be performed. |
