Kidney cancer and tumors on main blood vessels? |
My dad had one kidney removed a few years back, because of kidney cancer. The cancer is back and he also has a tumor on the main blood vessel to the kidneys. what do I look under to answer all my questions about treament or other options. I want to know as much as possible to help my dad. Sounds to me like your Dad has "renal cell" cancer. My husband had a kidney removed 11 years ago, a tumor by his ear in a salivary gland 5 years ago, and now has a tumor wrapped around his trachea. Once you have renal cell you will never get rid of it you will always have it somewhere in your body. My husband just finished a year on a med called Interferon, it is expensive and the side effects are horrific but his tumor has shrunk to less than 1/8 of it's original size. There is hope, don't panic and watch yourself carefully because renal cell can be hereditary. You are a good child to want to help your Dad, and you are right to find out all you can and don't be afraid to ask the doctor any kind of questions you may have. Try oncology. Leave it to the specialist, though. Well, the good news is there are a couple new treatments that have just been approved for renal cell cancer. There is also at least one other drug being studied that looks promising. First of all, you need to know exactly what type of kidney cancer it is. There are several different type and different thing that happen with each. Find out all you can from the oncologist then just get on yahoo and type in renal cell carcinoma. Cancer Go to www.kidneycancer.org. Any questions will probably be answered there. If not there are other links and boards. Good luck |
