If I have kidney cancer, is it in both or just one?

If someone has kidney cancer, is it 100% to be in both kidneys or just 1? - Also, if the person has that kidney removed and or replaced will the cancer be gone and nothing else to worry about?

It's not guaranteed to be in both but if you have it in one that kidney will be removed and further treatment such as chemo will be done to kill off any remaining cancerous cells.. The only time you can stop worrying about it is when you are 5 years cancer free... But then again I don't really think when a person has had cancer once that the possibility of getting it back isn't there in the back of their mind.

It can be in one or both. If the kidney is removed the cancer may or may not be completely gone. It is possible that parts of it can be in other parts of the renal system, or in other parts of the body.

First let me give a brief lecture on worrying about something which has not yet been diagnosed, since you have started your question with "If I have...". There are a wealth of sources of pain and strange symptoms in your body. Sometimes, these random events coincide each other arising the suspicion that something serious is happening. This is possible, but it is not definite. If you are experiencing a lot of the symptoms of kidney cancer or something kidney related, you need to have a professional evaluate you. Again, there a wealth of explanations for the symptoms of major afflictions like cancer. The anxiety of wondering if you do have cancer can and usually does enhance the potency and frequency of these symptoms (leading you to believe the condition is getting worse and not better, and therefore is serious).

Anyways, to answer your question (sorry if I sounded patronizing above, just I've been in your shoes before). The extent of Cancer's damage is related to the time it has gone unchecked compared with how healthy you are. A very healthy person detecting their cancer early will see a very localized infection whereas unhealthy people who have ignored their symptoms for a long time will be facing a larger problem. It is possible for a patient's cancer to begin in one kidney and spread to the other, but no more likely than it would to other local organs.

If cancer is discovered on your kidney, surgery will be the first step. This will involve either removing a part of the kidney or all of it depending on badly the kidney has been damaged. Next comes treatment, usually involving chemo with a variety of other techniques depending on what your doctor suggests and what you would like to try, to stop the cancer's growth. If treatment is successful, your cancer will go into remission. At this point, it is possible for your cancer to leave remission and begin growing again (a relapse), but for as long as it doesn't (and it may never return), you can live a very normal lifestyle (see Lance Armstrong, other brave, strong survivors).

There is no cure for cancer, but it is treatable like many uncurable, treatable diseases. It is not the death sentence that it once was.

Good Luck. God Bless you always.

Mostly people with awakened immune system and generic defect - leading to polyps are getting cancer and recurring cancer as well

My Mum was diagnose with kidney cancer in May this year. It was only in one kidney. They couldnt removed the kidney because it had already spread to the liver and lung. Once it has spread it is incurable. It was a very aggressive cancer she past away 3 weeks ago. If it is detected early enough it is a simple case of taking the kidney out and that is the end of it. However, like my mum she had NO symptoms what so ever and the kidney tumor was found by chance. When she was diagnosed she was already stage 4. Usually kidney cancer goes unnoticed until its too late. Contact me if you need any more info, i have learnt alot!!!
