Ultrasound Finding a Spot on Kidney - Cancer??

I know this isn't the best place to be asking medical questions, but I am at a loss as to where else to ask. My father had an ultrasound on Thurs for pain in his side and upper abdomen. While looking at his apparent fractured rib, a spot was found on his kidney. The doctor is now trying to get him in for a CAT scan. What can a "spot on your kidney" mean?? Could it just be a kidney stone or something more serious?? He hasn't had any urinary problems or prostate problems. It is difficult not knowing... you know?

It could be a benign cyst. They are common.

A cat scan will give a clearer picture. Don't think the worst but i know it's hard not to. It might be nothing and I hope it's not. Best of luck to you and your dad.

Any number of things. Stone, cyst, cancer... Wait on the scan results.

it could be urine crystalizing on his kidney, very well be a kidney stone, i would rule out cancer for the time being because cancer is an abnormal cell growth and it wouldnt be just a spot. lol. a cat scan will at least show more of what it is. good luck and dont worry too much.
