What r the symtoms of kidney cancer?

Before reading the rest of the answer please remember that the symptoms of kidney cancer can be a symptom of another simple problem like a stone or a simple infection in the renal ( kidney) system which includes the kidneys, ureters, and bladder as well as the urethra.

The presenting symptoms of kidney cancers in the frequency of occurance are : blood in the urine which can be gross seen with the naked eye or microscopic, pain in the loin ie. just above the hips in the back, a mass to feel in the same area, anaemia causing exhaustion and tiredness, losing apetite and weight, fever and sometimes an incidental finding of high blood pressure.

You would be extremely ill if you had cancer in your kidneys. Your kidneys filter the blood for your entire body ever half hour or so. Luckily you only really need 1/3 of the kidneys that you have in your body so surgical procedures can be successful.

The most common symptom, found in about half of all cases, is blood in the urine. However, only a minority of people with this symptom actually have cancer. In most cases it is caused by a kidney infection or kidney stones. Another quite common symptom is pain in the lower back or a swelling in the kidney area. Fatigue, weight loss, anaemia and sweating, which are the symptoms for many types of cancer, have also been reported. Also a craving for biscuits and gravy are a symptom. In addition to that a strong feeling of love for poole pottery has been known to be linked with this cancer.

The most common symptom of renal cell carcinoma is blood in the urine (hematuria). The blood might not be visible to the naked eye, though, and many other things can cause hematuria (kidney stones, bladder infection, bladder tumors)

Other possible symptoms of renal cell carcinoma include back and abdominal pain, swelling of the abdomen and a general malnourished look, but these symptoms could also be caused by a lot of other ailments.

I lost a kidney to caner in 2003. I started noticing blood in my urine, but I didn't have any pain. By the time I did see blood it was to late. I had it for a good year or more. It spread to my bladder and I have had a half dozen operations [all day surgery] and chemo twice. I have had the blood with the bladder cancer also. Abnormal urine color (dark, rusty, or brown)
Flank pain
Back pain
Abdominal pain
Unintentional weight loss of more than 5% of body weight
Emaciated, thin, malnourished appearance
Enlargement of one testicle
Swelling or enlargement of the abdomen
