Keloids and race? |
if you appear to be of subsaharan west african decent but do not get keloids with scarring does this mean you are mixed with another race?( factual answers only no racial lectures plesase) It's a fallacy to believe that keloid scarring is predominant in people of African descent. Actually, although they do occur at a slightly higher rate in that population, they occur in other racial groups as well thoughout the world. The tendency is familial, primarily- but keloid scarring can occur spontaneously in individuals without a family history. You can even have other scars that were not keloidal, and then form one in that manner. Forming or not forming a keloid doesn't say anything about the purity of your racial background one way or the other. It's genetic, and since it occurs in all races, it would be impossible to say you formed one because of your race, or didn't form one because you were of mixed race. A person of African anscestory that did not form keloids just doesn't have the genetic predisposition to do so, and it reflects nothing else about them. |
