My son's INR level is way too high?

My son had kawasaki disease last year when he was year and half old, which left him with coronary artery damages. Since then he has been under a aggressive blood thinner medication regime with baby aspirin, coumadin, and plavix. The target for his INR level is 2-3 accroding to his doctor. He has been getting blood work checked every 2-3 weeks for the last year and half. And generally his INR level has been quite stable. There were a few incidents in the past that his INR levels were either a bit too low (1.7-1.9) or a bit too high (3.1-3.5). But with a minor ajustment on his coumadin dosage, his INR level would back to the target.

Yesterday, I took my son for another INR test. And the result is alarmingly high (INR 14). Today I am going to take him for a retest. I am extremely worried. What could cause his INR level suddently jump to this high? By the way, his diet has not been changed much lately. He had a flu shot and Hepatitis A vaccine last friday. Anyhelp? Thanks

Here is a link to an article about that...check under "what did the researchers find?"...it mentions unstable heart disease as one finding..

First, I am not a doctor and not giving medical advice or trying to cure the disease, but I have studied nutrition for many years and have some basic knowledge of how the body works. The elevated INR level could be a result of the shots & vaccines. Both of these have high levels of mercury in them from the Thimerosol. The liver has to deal with this and we know that taking the drugs you have mentioned is definitely damaging his liver. A liver that is not functioning properly will not handle the mercury well.

Kawasaki disease is most likely caused by a virus and treating the symptoms rather than the specific virus will lead to all the complications you seem to be having. I would look to the mercury issue first, especially since you gave him the Hepatitis vaccine that directly affects the liver.

We also know that mercury kills brain cells by way of destroying the Tubulon Matrix surrounding the neurodendrites and leaving the bare neurodendrites to tangle like what happens in Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, the free radicals being released in his body from the drugs, mercury, and normal cell metabolism is probably greatly accelerated the destruction of the Nigral Cells that produce dopamine and have accelerated his chances to get Parkinson's disease later in life.

You may want to look at detoxing him for the mercury, but that needs to be done very carefully because of his liver issue. Doctors are not educated about nutrition and the AMA prevents them from prescribing nutrition to cure disease under threat of losing their license. You may want to consider working with a certified nutritional therapist in conjunction with your doctor to solve these problems to maximize his chances of success. Most likely, his digestion of minerals and vitamins has been compromised greatly by the drugs and many times a deficiency can occur from the lack of one vitamin or another. I suggest doing a couple simple tests on your own to determine if a mineral deficiency is present. Take his morning pH of his urine and if it is not in the 6.4 to 7.0 range, and reading lower, this could be a strong indication that he does not have the cellular oxygen to be strong in fighting the problem. Each increment of the pH scale is exponential in this regard.

good luck to you

My guess is that it has something to do with the Hep A vaccine. Increased INR levels can be a result of liver disease, including hepatitis. Not to alarm you or anything, because the most likely answer is that's it's related to the vaccine, but other causes of high INR levels include CHF, and leukemias. There are also a lot of drug interactions... Salicylates (Asprin) is one that can cause a high level of INR. Also, antibiotics (penicillin, streptomycin, carbenicillian, chloraphenicol, neomycin and tetracyclines). Thorazine, Librium, Dilantin, warfarin (Coumadin), Aldomet, Dilantin, heparin, mitrhamycin, reserpine, Butazolidin, and quinidine.

My guess is that it's probably a combination of the vaccine and the asprin therapy... but ask your doc about it...he or she will know better that I do.
