What are signs and symptoms of juvenile diabetes?

my daughter is 7 months old and this disease runs in her fathers family

Rapid weight loss along with a marked increased hunger and thirst. Frequent urination. The breath will smell sweet, like cheap wine (that's how my mother described my breath as smelling, at least) due to the breakdown of ketones in the bloodstream. The child will be lethargic.

The average age of onset is about 12, when these symptoms would be easier to notice. While very young children do sometimes develop the disease, they are the exception rather than the rule. The best news is that her chance of getting it, even if her father has it, are less than 10%. The odds are very good that she will not develope it.

I am not sure if you would be able to tell in a seven month old with out blood and urine tests. As the child gets older, excessive thirst and bruising easily are a couple of other signs.

having a persitant cold runny nose, excessive weeing and thirst get your doc to check it out to put your mind at rest good luck

I remember my mom saying that when her little brother came down with juvenile diabetes when he was around 6 or 7 he was always tired, laying around the house, he got really skinny, and he craved a lot of sugary drinks like Gatorade and punch.
I don't know what the earliest age to be tested is, but a test is the best way to find out if she has the disease.

*That's right dolankaz! He also would be in the bathroom, urinating, quite frequently.

persistent thirst, frequent urination, depleted stamina

Juvenile Diabetes Symptoms
The process that destroys the insulin-producing beta cells can be a long and insidious one. At the point when insulin production bottoms out, however, type 1 diabetes usually appears suddenly and progresses quickly. Warning signs of type 1 diabetes include:
Frequent urination (in children, a recurrence of bed-wetting after toilet training has been completed).

Unusual thirst, especially for sweet, cold drinks.

Extreme hunger.

Sudden, sometimes dramatic, weight loss.

Weakness.

Extreme fatigue.

Blurred vision or other changes in eyesight.

Irritability.

Nausea and vomiting (acute symptoms).
Children with type 1 diabetes may also be restless, apathetic, and have trouble functioning at school. In severe cases, diabetic coma may be the first sign of type 1 diabetes

Diabetes Symptoms in Child

Parents of a child with "classic" symptoms of diabetes may notice that their son or daughter is abnormally thirsty, needs to urinate frequently, and has been losing weight in spite of a good appetite. But this is only one possible set of symptoms. Sometimes, the first sign of diabetes is bed-wetting in a child who has always been dry at night. Other times, in girls, it's a vaginal "yeast" infection (candida infection). About 25% of children have already progressed to diabetic ketoacidosis by the time they first see the doctor. Because these children may vomit and complain of abdominal pain, their symptoms can be mistaken for the flu or appendicitis. In the most severe cases, the child breathes rapidly and deeply, has a fruity odor on his breath, and may lose consciousness.

Doctors diagnose diabetes by testing for glucose and ketones in the urine and by measuring glucose levels in the blood.

also bring the baby to the doctor and ask for a random blood sugar test

Your daughter needs to be seen frequently by your pediatrician. Nowdays in the healthcare, you HAVE to demand certain information and concern. When she get a bit older you can check her blood sugar with a glucomeer, at home. That is something you should invest in, it will be worth your concern, and her health.

My diabetes came from my father, I started to notice changes when I was 19. It's all what people said, and lots of yelling and screaming out of control, beside your typical symptoms of excessive thirst, excessive urination, fatigue, etc. Please make sure she follows the doctor order to the "t" otherwise, there will be many consequences to face, all unpleasant. I just had a kidney transplant, from renal failure, caused from diabetes, and been on dialysis for 2 years. I was lucky to have a friend give me one of his kidney. I never really took care of myself, and I am now!

Stem cell research may happen by the time your daughter becomes a teenager. I cannot wish you enough, on that to happen. Please take good are of her I wish you all the support and love you can provide her.
