No, not really. Years ago, the answer to your question might have been yes. But today, our technology has advanced so much that there's plenty of ways (incliding machinery) to keep an eye on your diabetes, thus avoiding bad health. It still requires effort, but it can be done. You may never have perfect blood sugar readings all the time, but what matters is your average over a period of time.

unfortunately people with juvenile diabetes do not tend to live as long as people who develop it later in life. it is very damaging to the body and over time it takes a toll on you. with that said, the medical community has made improvements in leaps and bounds in the last 10 yrs for treating juv diabetes. people are already living longer with proper education, newer meds, and proper management. you have to realize that it si hard to get adults to follow the prgram for diabetes. now add in the way kids tend to think they're indestructable and don't think of life in longer terms. with the aid of insulin pumps and diet changes, juv diabetes has been less of a terminak diagnosis and more of a long term combat. and everyday we know more about it and how to fight it. in just the last 3 yrs, scientists have discovered that a blood sugar level of 70 - 110 lengthens a peron's life by almost 10 yrs as opposed to one of 80-120. so who knows what tomorrow holds. there's been some successful research showing that stem cells can regrow the necessary pancreatic cells for making insulin. don't hold your breath but don't loose hope either. big things are coming with the insistance of insurance companies that the medical community start doing more to solve the problem and cut the huge costs to them.
