Does anyone have any idea whats going on or what these symptoms could mean?

I'm asking this question for a good friend of mine. Her son just turned 3 and she's been noticing some strange behaviors. He will be sleeping and all of a sudden throw up, then go right back to sleep. He has no other symptons, no fever, diarrhea, nothing! He did it maybe one or twice over the summer and she didn't think nothing of it, but now its starting to happen more frequently, it's been twice now this week. She took him to the doctor and the doctor wants to do bloodwork and also a catscan... she's thinking it could be anything from juvenile diabetes to a brain tumor. It only happens at night when he's sleeping and relaxed, maybe something in his brain is sending signals to his tummy or I dunno. Does anyone have any opinions or been in a similar situation? Thanks!

Poor kid...I don't know...I am thinking maybe he has some sort of obstruction or problem with either his stomach or intestines..it could be just gas, constipation or IBS causing stuff to back up and come back up the other way. Does he complain of tummy aches ever?

You can't guess with these things. There's no point in jumping to conclusions...why would she associate it with those two things...I doubt it...it could be gastrointestinal.

Is there any chance he is under stress or emotionally bothered by something? Has something changed in his normal routine over the summer? Maybe he works these problems out in his dreams but they are upsetting enough to make him vomit.

If they find nothing in the physical tests you should consider that as an option too.

It's hard to know when a child is just 3 what is bothering them. Good luck.

Maybe his tummy is too full when he goes to bed and he has acid reflux which would cause him to puke.........

Sounds like its probably a special case of something..not sure what it would be though..

hopefully it isnt something serious but i would tell ur friend to let the doc do all the testing they need until they find out what the deal is

maybe he eats too much before he goes to sleep

Let us know what the test results are and we will try to hazard a guess.

bring the kid to a doctor he might just have a digestion problem

Sounds a little liek the starting signs of juvenile diabetes but, BUT I could be wrong, dont panic.. Im sure he'll be find.. my little sister has stomach problems, she has bad IBS and this happenes to her sometimes, they thought it was juvenile diabetes turned out to be IBS (iritable bowel syndrome) dont panic, just comfort let them check him out, docotors are usually pretty good at figureing out things like this =^-^=

Take that boy to the Dr and do as the Dr says. He does need a Dr.

My son use to go to sleep then wake up coughing and throw up but that was asthma. I took him to a Dr that treated asthma with calcium supplements and it took four months and he stopped doing that.

He probably is having anxiety attacks, because he feels that his mother has left him, and that stays in his subconscious mind. Making him nervous, ultimately making him vomit.

I'd let the doctor take over on this one.....if he is worried enough to do a CT scan...no one here is gonna be able to diagnose this problem.... hope it goes well and he really has nothing wrong but a burpy belly

i wish i could help you for the little boys sake but all i can say is she needs to get him to a doctor. it could be serious or not. sounds to me like a digestion problem , though. especially if it happens when he's laying down. ask her how long it had been before he laid down each time this happened. i know that i, even as an adult, get sick to my stomach if i dont let my food digest and then try to lay down to sleep. hopefully its just a simple digestion problem.

You should not ask advice here for a potentially serious conditon. leave it up to the Doctors.....

I must admit that I have no clue, but please tell your friend that taking him to the doctor was the right thing to do. I sure hope they figure out what is going on and can fix it , I hope it is nothing major. Tell your friend that I will be praying for her and her son. You know that God works through those doctors so her son is in good hands. Tell her not to give up until she is satisified with what the doctor says. Good Luck to you all and may God Bless and Keep you.

it sounds like maby acid reflux .. she needs to get a second opnion...

sounds like pressure inside the skull. From (guessing)poor blood flow out of the brain, or something new taking up room. If he's lying flat every time it happens, tell the docto. try make him sleep w/ the head of bed @ a30 degree angle and see what happens. Cat scan is a very good idea.
