How do I cope with jet lag? |
I'm flying to Barbados from the UK next week and am staying there for two weeks. But because the tour operator has got an itinery planned, I only have on day at the start of the holiday to do what I want. Is there a way to overcome the jet lag on that one day? sleep Don't go to bed until it is time to go to bed. Don't get up until it is time to get up, and not after. Pop a melatonin before you go to bed. It will take a few days. no, usually not unless you have experienced jet lag many times. Best advice is to go to sleep early that night Drink lots of beer. sleep, sleep, and drink lots of water. Water dose the body good. Try to sleep on the plain. When you get to Barbados (lucky guy), try to stay up and go to sleep at a normal hour say 10 or 11 p.m. Some say force yourself to stay awake to sync with the local time. I tried that once on a six hour time difference and it was horrible. I much prefer to simply sleep when necessary and take a day or two to settle in to local time. Eating heartily and drinking coffee or high-sugar drinks to help stay awake until you are in sync helps. You could also sleep on the plane. Some people swear by melatonin taken before bed when you get there. Personally, I found it easier to start being on the time of my destination - for you, Barbados time-- as soon as you get on the airplane. Sleep only at night, eat at the normal times of Barbados and fight the urge to do more than take a 30 minute nap if necessary. Also, you will be so excited to be there that adrenaline should get you through for the first few days as you adjust. |
