Melatonin? |
Have any serious , side efffects been, reported from , taking Melatonin?. Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by the pineal gland located in the center of the brain. Its secretion is inhibited by light and stimulated by darkness. Therefore, melatonin production peaks at night. Research shows that the body鈥檚 natural production of melatonin decreases with age. Melatonin has received substantial publicity for its ability to promote natural sleep patterns, stimulate the immune system, decrease jet lag and its role as a powerful antioxidant. Headache or altered sleep pattern may occur. If either of these effects persists or worsens, contact your doctor promptly. Unlikely but report promptly: mental or mood changes, itching, fast heartbeat, sensation of heaviness in the head. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Melatonin induces sleep, there are no side effects but your body can adapt to it so that it no longer has any effect when taking them. They shouldn't be taken often as they can throw your sleep off track in some cases. theres nothing harmful about it just dont take many otherwise adaptation may urge you to take more and bang your going down the road to being addicted. |
