Can being Dehydrated make a narcotic pain pill work faster? |
If you are dehydrated, will it effect the way a narcotic pain pill will affect your body? I am dehydrated from a lot of jet lag but need to take a pain pill for my back. Thanks. One problem with being dehydrated and taking narcotic pain medications is becoming constipated. Narcotics by their very nature cause constipation because they slow the motility of the bowel. You need adequate water intake to keep your stool from drying out which also causes constipation. Just get your beverage of choice, preferably clear and non-caffinated and take frequent sips. Sometimes it is hard to guzzle fluids. Good luck, hope your back feels better soon. It will not have any adverse effect. You may feel a bit more tired than usual but with jet lag that's not necessarily a bad thing. Drink lots of water and take a nap. I found that my pills don't work as well when I am dehydrated. Take the pill and start replenishing your fluids. And yes, it will constipate you quicker. It wont help the pil work any faster. Get some water and force fluids so that you dont continue to be dehydrated.................Geeshhhhhhhhh... |
