What are some good rigorous back exercises for coping with lumbar scoliosis?

I'm 21 years old and the curve in my lower back is about 28 degrees. I work in a vigorous environment, mainly repairing jet engines, and I carry around 50-70 lbs of equipment for about 2-3 hours a day. Whenever I carry stuff around, I feel the left side of my back picking up practically all the slack, while the right side of my back lags behind and gets fatigued rather quickly.

What are some good exercises I can do to at least strengthen all of my back and try to get the muscles equally strong, so I can better cope with my workload?

Hi

I do Yoga, which includes in the water when the sun is out ;)

I have a good list of exercises on my website that are suitable for people with Scoliosis - of course we are all different, so please be careful when trying new exercises.

I find Yoga is very good for Scoliotics, it builds good core strength and keeps you very well balanced, something that is important when you live in a twisty world like me :D

I have a harrington rod in my spine that was *fitted* (shall we say) in 1989 and the only exercise I have been able to manage well is Swimming and Yoga, there have been many good comments about Pilates but that did not work for me.

You can actually buy Yoga tailored for Scoliosis and you can find that book on my website, the Yoga in that book is the one I do.

All the best and happy training :)
