Is it common or possible for someone who had jaundice as a baby to get it again as an adult?

i'm just wondering because my stool was yellow yesterday and i think my skin looks a little yellow, if not jaundice what else could it be? alos i dont know if this is related or not put i also have neck should and upper back pain.

serious answers from someone who experianced this or has a job in the medical field would be nice.

Your present problem has nothing to do with the jaundice you had as a baby, if you had been well in between.
You need a thorough check up and blood tests to know for sure if you have jaundice. Your symptoms are vague and frankly I think you have some viral fever rather than jaundice, but get a check up.
Good luck!

This is for a doctor to answer not us.....good luck

have you made a will?

It could be AIDS.

Yes you can get jaundice as an adult however I do not think it is related to babyhood. I would seriously consider going to your doctor since jaundice may be a good sign your liver is not working properly or some other potentially serious issues.

Jaundice is always a symptom of something else gone wrong. It's time to see the doctor.

Pale colored stool is a sign of anemia, usually iron.

Yes...my father-in-law got jaundice when he got pancreatic cancer.

it is possible. Jaundice occurs when your liver is not working properly. Some people confuse it with beta-carotene toxification becuase that can also turn your skin and odd color. look at the white part of your eyes and if that looks discolored as well, its most likely jaundice. I would still visit your doctor though because your stools are different colors as well. good luck!

jaundice is something that you get due to other illnesses - like hepatitis. you should go to your doctor to see if there is something wrong. it is not like chicken pox, you can get jaundice over and over.

You should get tested for all strains of hepatitis as that would explain the jaundice. The jaundice you have now has nothing to do with the jaundice that newborns get. People become very ill with hepatitis. There are some people who carry hepatitis and never get any symptoms. Go see the doctor. Good luck.

Lots of babies have jaundice when born. Not to worry. See a doctor you may be having a liver problem. Be hygenic always.Eating contaminated food etc could be dangerous.

Yellow Stool Color Is Rare
A pale or yellow colored stool is rare and can be caused by a few different malfunctions of the digestive system.

The first is known as Gilbert鈥檚 Syndrome, which mainly affects males in their teens. If you suffer from this syndrome, it means your liver doesn鈥檛 process enough red blood cells. Broken down, red blood cells give stool much of its color. When fewer cells are processed, the stool can appear a pale brown or yellow in color. This is not a serious illness and doesn鈥檛 harm the individual.

Another more serious illness is a parasite infection known as giardia. These are Protozoan parasites which invade the intestines, and the result is a diarrhea that is yellow in color.

Lastly, if you suffer from mal-absorption, your stool may appear to be yellow in color. When your body doesn鈥檛 properly absorb fats from the food you eat, it passes through your colon into your stool. The excess fat can give the yellow coloring to your stool.

If you have liver condition such serrosis- from drinking too much alcohol, heptitus, yes you can get jaundice.

It is possible, but the two events would not be related. You need to see a doctor.

Jaundice as an adult usually means liver problems.

Yellow poop can also sometimes indicate liver problems but not always.

Just about all babies get some degree of jaundice, this is usually normal although some cases can be severe enough to cause problems. Having had jaundice as a baby doesn't mean you get it again later as an adult. Usually something is wrong with the liver if your skin is turning yellow. You mentioned the yellow stools, this could indicate a problem with your gallbladder, of which neck and shoulder pain could be a sypmtom. Time to see the doctor, sooner is better than later should this be something serious.
