Anyone out there dealt with prolonged baby jaundice? What was the treatment and outcome?

My daughter is still a little yellow. She is 5.5 weeks old. I thought maybe it was breastmilk jaundice, but doctors don't think so. She is also slightly anemic. I'm not sure what to think. She is also part Asian. 1/8th Japanese. I thought maybe that would have to do with it as well...

In their first few days of life, more than half of all full-term babies and as many as four out of five premature infants who are otherwise healthy develop jaundice. Although some babies are jaundiced at birth, most develop infant jaundice during their second or third day of life. This would usually disappear in 2 weeks. Jaundice that develops or lasts more than 2 weeks can be a sign of a liver malfunction, a severe infection, an enzyme deficiency, or an abnormality of your baby's red blood cells. Your doctor should do further testing to determine what the exact cause is.

i HAVE THREE CHILDREN AND THEY ALL HAD JAUNDICE MORE ESPECIALLY THE LAST BABY.
WE HAD TO STAY IN THE HOSPITAL 4 TWO WKS
during THESE PERIOD SHE WAS PHOTOTERAPY AND EARLY MORNING SUN.AGAIN CORD LIVER OIL IS HELPFUL TOO WITH MUCH WATER AND BREASTFEEDING Report It

My twin boys both had jaundice for awhile. They just put them under a special light for a few days until it went away. I don't understand why your doctors aren't doing this? Mention it to them and see what they say.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it...I had a severe case of jaundice when I was born. I was in the hospital for weeks. Obviously I don't remember the treatment, but it lead to no complications, and it hasn't affected me at all as I've gotten older.

My niece had that. Possibly due to the Asian dna. (although I don't know anything about that.) Make sure she gets plenty of sunshine. That helped my niece.

Best treatment for babies that young is phototherapy. my daughter had jaundice at birth. doctors put her in the incubator for 15 days and all the incubator had was a tubelight. and this is what usually mothers do to their newborns. move her close to the window in the morning, so that the baby bathes in the morning sunlight.
This question indeed will be best answered by the doctors. Me not being one. And I dont think breast milk had anything to do with the jaundice, but again as we say that mothers milk usually contains essential nutrients for the babies, so u need to continue breastfeed.

Well I don't know about that, if she is still yellow and out of the hospital then obviously the Docs must be okay with it? My daughter was in the hospital for 6 days after she was born. Her Jaundice was really higha dn she had to be under these special lights for the whole dang time she was there and she could only comeout to be fed. I guess it depends on her bilirubin count as well. Also the more she drinks Breastmilk or formula the Jaundice will dissipate. Good Luck! I know it is difficult to see your baby like that. She is in no pain though. Keep getting her bilirubin checked.

My daughter had jaundice also, lay her in her crib, baby seat etc....infront of a window....NOT SUNNY, she'll get sunburn, just a window with daylight comming thru, and see if this doesnt make a difference in a few days if she starts getting yellower, I'd take her back to the dr.
