Is jaundice transferable? urgent..?

ma broz sufferin frm it.. so i js wna know

but my cousin said its a highly transferable one.. ( is there a medical term for transferable diseases.. i knew it.. now I forgot.. anyway).. I'm stil not sure..

What TOM said is right and the rest of the commenters are just confused.

JAUNDICE is only the name for the yellow color, the symptom. It might be caused by different liver diseases. If the disease that causes the jaundice is hepatitis, then its catching(tranferrable, trasmissible, contagious). But if its caused by alcoholic cirrhosis, then its NOT.

"Fever" is not catching, but if its caused by a cold or malaria then you can catch that. but if fever is caused by drug reaction, then you cant catch that.

It's a liver condition. Unless you have sex with your brother, or get some of his blood on your eyes, in your mouth, in an open wound, you should be fine, I think.

That's not to say you can't suffer from your very own liver dysfunction.

If you're worried, go ask a doctor.

No it is not.Don't be afraid of it

Its not TRansferable,, and for Jaundice There are Nice Treatments in Ayurveda,, if u want any further information pls feel fee to chatt,, send a message to Yahoo Messenger,, to boreda undescore chan

no jaundice is not transferable.but certain precautions has to be taken in diet.like avoid oily n fleshy fooooooods.and do not share ur drink or the same glass of water with any one else.avoid eating potatoes, aubergines or eggplant, colocasia leaf, elephant yam.so pls avoid eating this above stuff.and if possible take lots and lots of sugar cane juice or fresh lime juice.take care.

Jaundise is a symptom not a disease so jaundice itself is not contagious. It depends on what is causing the jaundice. Some types of hepatitis are highly communicable, others require a blood contact. Other liver disease could be the problem and agin some can be passed quite easily, some don't transfer so readily. You need to know the specific problem so you can ask your doctor and get the right information.

Jaundice is NOT transmittable. Jaundice happens because your liver cannot clear salts properly. The reason for this needs to be investigated though.... it can be due to gallstones, or hepatitis or some other liver problem. Hepatitis is transmittable... so you need to find out what has caused your brother's problem.

find out from a doctor... he will do one simple blood test and that will narrow down the problem.

NO. Jaundice or the yellowing of skin and or whites of eyes is due to the breaking down of toxins by your own liver. It is non communicable. You can become Jaundice from a hepatitis infection, which is highly communicable to others.

It depends on what's causing the jaundice. If it's caused by Hepatitis A, then yes, you can catch it. Hep A is highly contangious, through the fecal / oral route, also sexually but usually with men 2 men. If the person who has hep a virus prepares food and hasnt' washed hands thoroughly, it can contaminate the food and be spread. That 's how restaurants spread it inadvertantly. Find out what is causing the jaundice.
