Jaundice at birth time. If is too high? Post precautions? |
My son (now 30 months old) have more than 30 points just after 2 days of birth. Generally it is 10 to 12 points maximum which can be caured. So doctor replaced whole body blood to save him. Now he is well but his activities (speaking, walking) are lagging as comapare to same age group kids. He is extra ordinary active. But some time he lost his balance. Doctor says blood formation is very slow. It will increase with time. You already seem very knowledgeble about this. My son was born with hyperbilirubenemia (jaundice) his total bilirubin went to 16 if it had gone any higher they would have done the transfusin. Luckily putting him under the bili-lites was enough and his bilirubin came down. Doctors and parents have time lines that children should be walking., talking, potty trained and all the other measures for success that parents place on children. My son was also born with a club foot and a cleft palate and was a premie. He was slow in everything, behind in all the development. Lagged in weight and size and slow to walk. He also was hyperactive and had ADD. Other than that your typical normal child. He turned out fine, he is now 25. Kids lose thier balance my son use to run into the wall for no apparent reason. Just get up and head straight for the wall. If your son likes the outdoors keep him busy by playing outdoors. These kids if he is extra active needs to be stimulated. You may find that he is very bright, will learn his numbers and alphabet faster than many kids. You can take him to a pediatrician but it sounds like to me he is a typical male child. I am guessing he is the first one. If a bilirubin gets too high it could effect the liver that is why the transfusion was done. If there is a question though a simple blood test checking the liver enzymes could be a quick way to determine that. I don't understand the term the clots dissolve automatically sorry? Good luck to you and your son Thanks for your advise. It seems to be useful. Report It Where do you live? You need to take your son to Boston to the Children's Hospital. The best doctors in the world work there. wow, those are all really good questions. You should write them down and next time you're at the doctors ask him. If he doesn't clarify for you tell him so he can try. If he doesn't want to take the time find another doctor. Do lots of your own research. As for any developmental delays contact your local child development center or early intervention center. My son uses child development and they are wonderful. Good luck. Hi, |
