Creepy-crawly constant itching all over body - help!?

I have moved into a new appartment which I have cleaned thoroughly and had no itching for about a week and a half. Then yesterday, after I did my laundry (same detergent and fabric softener as always) at the local laundry mat I decided to go for a run.
As soon as the run began I started itching all over. No visable bugs or bug bites - just constant "creepy-crawly" itching from head to toe with no discernable pattern. Last night I rented one of those "rug doctor" carpet cleaners because the person before me must of had a dog or a cat because there were long hairs deep in the carpet. I say this because I stretched on the floor prior to my run, but I had done this several times before with no itching.
Today, when I woke up it was a lot better. I hung around the house for a couple hours and then went about my day. Barely any itching all day and then as soon as I walked in the door it began all over again. Nothing that I am aware of while I sleep. Any ideas?

After the carpet shampoo I have resorted to Arm and Hammer "pet hair release powder" and additional vacuuming to try and get all the hair up. Following this, i have gone over the appartment inch by inch with one of those sticky lint rollers and you would be amazed at the crap i am still picking up.
And, oh, by the way - i saw my first flee not too long ago. Thankfully(?) I also purchased a Hot Shot brand common house pest killer (don't know if its gonna help) and know I am probably going to have to vacate my appartment after less than two weeks - not to mention the considerable amount of money i have already invested ... man, what a pain!

Sounds like fleas. You need to go to the doctor and get a check up. Also get your carpet professionally cleaned. With a flea killer

may its becuase of dryness in ur body.sometimes when u go out in sun its starts itching because of water level in body is low n skin becomes dry.try not to take a bath with hot water.n drink as much water u can. if still have the problem n contact doctor cheers!!!!!

Josh, First of all, when did you use the rug doctor? Days before you stretched on the floor? It could either be that you are allergic to the chemicals in the rug doctor solution because you said that you stretched on the carpet before you ran OR, you might have eaten something new and you are allergic to that. I truly hope this is the answer you were looking for. :D

How is the air in your apartment? In my house, it is often dry, and when I go running, the air is often humid, and it gives me an itching feeling all over. If your skin suddenly changes from dry to moist or from moist to dry, it can cause something to give you a rash. Check with a dermatologist.

It could also be allergy to a cleaner that was used in the apartment before you moved in, and sounds like something you're breathing since it's a whole body reaction. It could also possibly be from an insecticide that was used. Does anything have an unusual smell? "Creepy-crawly" itching would point to involvement of the nervous system. Have you had any sensation of your throat swelling?

If it's an allergic reaction, throat swelling can become severe enough that it cuts off the air, in which case it would be life-threatening and necessitate a trip to the ER or your doctor, or at least some serious antihistamines.

If it is something in fabric, Febreze makes a formula for allergies that puts a protective film on fabric, etc. that is supposed to seal off the dust mites in pillows, upholstery, etc., and might help. Wish you lots of good luck!
