Holy itching! From hornet stings?!?

How long is a reaction supposed to last from hornet stings? I was stung twice (one on each foot- on the tops of my feet) in a matter of 4 minutes yesterday around 5 am. Both feet swelled up quite a bit yesterday afternoon, and I ended up sleeping most of the day... Now today they've been itching like freakin crazy! Is that normal? Will it go away? I took a benadryl which sucks because it knocks me out and I've been sleeping almost non stop! Is there any other way to stop the itching? Is it bad that the itching is like trailing up my leg a little bit? And it's all red. Is that an allergic reaction or a normal reaction and it's just seeming like more because it was two stings at once? I've been stung twice before, by regular bees, and never had these types of reactions, in fact, the one time i hardly even knew i had been stung.

You are having an allergic reaction.

Keep taking benedryl.

IF you have trouble breathing, go to a hospital immediately.

If it gets WORSE than it is now, go to a minor emergency clinic.

If it is about the same, just itching and swelling, the doc can give you a shot to help, or you can continue to take the benedryl, it should be okay in a day or two. It will get better.

Note: Since you have had this reaction this time, chances are, next time you are stung it will get worse. Ask your doc for a bee sting (or hornet sting) kit, where you can give yourself an injection using a self injecting pen in case of emergency. An emergency would be when you feel like you can't breath. That is dangerous. It can and does happen on subsequent stings where you have an allergic reaction.

you should go to a doctor and get a shot thats what my mom had to do once

The main thing you need to keep a look out for is difficulty breathing due to the sting. If you are experiencing this you could be having an anaphylactic reaction and should dial 911. This normally happens shortly after though.

If this has been quite a while after the sting, itching tends to be typical in most cases. A lot of people like to put an icepack on the sting area to reduce the swelling and the burning / itching sensation. Also you may want to try some type of antihistamine ointment. Also Benadryl offers a non-drowsy version of their medication. If swelling becomes severe you probably should consult with your doctor.

it sounds like your allergic to the hornet sting go to after hours clinic or to the er to check it out before it gets worse!!!OR it could be infection of the bite.
