Coca Leaves and Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Ethics?

My mother suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). She has taken medication and now the medication that has been helping her for the past two years is off the market because it's been determined to cause congestive heart failure.

I found out recently that coca leaves (which contain the drug cocaine) has been known to reduce or eliminate IBS. Subsequently I purchased coca leaf tea online.

I am not able to give her the coca leaves because of their stigma, and also I am afraid they might hurt her. I feel like I am faced with a moral dilemma now. Why does our government authorize these dangerous pharmaceutical drugs that cause CHF but they do not allow coca leaves into the market? Are coca leaves dangerous?

WHERE CAN I FIND THE FACTS and not a bunch of obfuscated political mumbo jumbo. Or maybe someone can just generally comment on my situation. HELP. Thanks,

Coca tea has very little cocaine, and is widely used in South America. It is probably similar to coffee or tea in its effects, but I can't find any authoritative sources of information. It doesn't seem to be dangerous.

I'm sorry about your mother. The politics of drug policy and medicine is byzantine.

not real sure of this but I am curious about it too.probably because they can't tax it.

You are wrong, you can buy coca tea in the US , sales are well controlled by Amazon.
Coca leaf as such is illegal and even possession is penalized by law, but when the coca leaf has been processed in to tea with all the "export quality" controls, it can be commercialized legally.
It is just a gourmet tea as any other one that you can buy only online ( this to control the amount sold to each person).
When you order from overseas you are not sure of the quality of the product , the best to do is just get it at Amazon ( search for coca tea)
all the information that you want about coca tea sold in the US can be found at www.MysteriousBolivia.BlogSpot.com
