Question about Irritable Bowel Syndrome? |
I have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). I just recently started taking an over the counter medication for it. I drink a cup of coffee a day, sometimes none at all. My friend says that I should cut out coffee completely. I wouldn't miss it, but I was wondering if that was necessary? It doesn't say anything about caffeine consumption on the box or the bottle of the medication. i have I.B.S aswell i drink coffee and tea i never knew it was bad for it if it causes your I.B.S to inflame then instead of cutting it out just weaken it alittle. orange juice is good for this problem and avoid starchy foods. buscopan tablets are good and eat very little but often.avoid sprouts and cabbage it creats more bloating and eat more white bread not whole meal this should help. good luck. Well, the acid in the coffee irritates the bowels, that's why you should not drink it. Ihave IBS and have never tried an over the counter remedy, my doctor prescribed mebeverine chloride and it works great. I don't drink coffee as I don't like it, but I drink shed loads of tea, and I'm okay, before the tablets, everything was a problem. I suffer from IBS as well, and i still drink coffee. Your friend isnota doctor, andyourfriendalso is not in your body. Only you can decide whether or not the coffee is making your stomach irritable still , or if you wish to drink it or not. The decision is totally and 100 percent up to you. I only reccomend that you listen to your body when it tries to tell you something...we are our own best judges when it comes to how we are feeling. Huge hugs, and good luck! This is What I think you should try,Switch to decaf and see if it makes a difference, if you feel it does then its probably the cafiene in the coffe , if not, then try not drinking it at all. If then you feel like your feeling better then youll know. Coffee doesnt affect everybody with IBS, it really depends, if you can tolerate it and enjoy a cup of joe a day then you are fine. |
