Short pieces of flat stool....could it be Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

I never noticed until now that from time to time in my bowel movement I have short pieces of flat shaped stool or close to flat shaped. This usually occurs if I have a stomach cramp after I eat and it goes away if I make the bowel movement or if I get the feeling in my stomach and I kind of force it out when I don't really need to. I've made an appointment to see the Gastroenterologist. But what do you think it means? could this be irritable bowel syndrome? I don't have a family history of colon cancer an my family claims they've had this kind of bowel movement too. Aren't I too young to have colon cancer so wouldn't this most likely be IBS? If I eat greasy foods or dairy products I usually get stomach pains afterwards

It could be that you have a polyp or hard stool in your rectum causing your stool to flatten as it exits. If it does not get better I would definately call a doctor.

Doesn't sound like IBS, but it does sound like you are constipated and dodn't realize it. Eat plentyof fiber and stay away from foods that will bind you up. EX:cheese
