Does anyone have chest pain with irritable bowel syndrome? |
My husband had his gallbladder out about 4 years ago and his health has not been right since. He's had all kinds of tests including 3 ERCPs, another endoscopy, colonoscopy, breath tests and many, many bloodwork tests. He's seen about 4 different doctors including a GI specialist and the surgeon who removed his gallbladder. Right now his latest doctor thinks he has irritable bowel syndrome as nothing else seems to fit. Really though the bowel symptoms (2-3 loose BM's a day) are really the least of it. Mostly he is complaining of overwhelming fatigue and chest pain (it is not cardiac related) that he says is similar to the pain that he had when he was having his gallbladder attacks. I think he needs an ultrasound or CT of this area to see what is going on. All his bloodwork is coming back within normal limits so there is not much to go on. I was just wondering if anyone else has had symptoms like this and had it resolved or improved to better health? How long do you think this syndrome would last? He's seen 4 doctors in the past 4 years, one of them the surgeon who removed the gallbladder, you'd think he'd recognized this syndrome and been able to help my husband. I'm looking for real people who have suffered from this to hear about their experiences, I guess this was not clear in the question? I don't really need a nurse giving me theories considering that I am also a nurse though I don't advertise it and I don't need textbook answers that I can look up in my med-surg book. YES YES YES! been there done that and all i can say is that the diarrhea contiues til this day 5 years +. i think that the ibs can be caused bc of the excess of bile being dumped into the bowels bc the lack of the gallbladder. i have it to this day. sorry to say that the dr's really don't tell u this and the other after affects of having the gallbladder removed. the only treatment offered me was these huge horse pills 6x a day. they told me that if it doesn't stop after 3 years, it may never stop. the chest pain i had was due to a hiatal hernia. could have been missed with the upper gi, i would double check. i think the spasms in the bowels can cause a lot more pain and angst than most would think. sorry to hear that he's suffering. the answer is that there really isn't an answer. Perhaps it's post-cholecystectomy syndrome. Contrary to what one person said about the liver "dumping bile into the [small] intestine" and this could be causing the problem, not true. Without the gallbladder, bile is released in a slow trickle and should not be causing this problem. In fact, the small amount that trickles in can prevent efficient fat metabolism after a fatty meal. This is not the problem. |
