I have an irregular heartbeat i'm only 20 will this cause a heart attack?

Several different things can cause an irregular heart beat. Sometimes your heart has a premature beat instead of the regular beat, and the premature beat is not strong enough to cause a pulse, thus making you feel like your heart has skipped a beat. In young, healthy people this may not be very serious. It can be caused by stress, caffeine, etc. (For example, I had lots of these premature beats while I was directing a Christmas play last year. After the play was over, I was fine.)

If your heart is actually in an irregular rhythm such as atrial fibrillation, then yes, this is very serious. Medications can control the rhythm, but if it is not treated it can lead to heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism.

There's no way to tell which rhythm your heart is in without having and ECG. Ask your family doctor about this, and he may refer you to a cardiologist. It's way better to be safe than sorry.

i do not know ask your doctor. My mom's friend little boy died of a heart attack he was four years old. So i would go see your doctor and ask what if anything is wrong with your heart.

AND GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR AND a good thing to do is keep a journal and make note of when it happens. look it over in 2 weeks or so and see if it happens during a certain time. Good Luck!!

An irregular heart beat can be a life threatening thing or it could be not a problem at all it all depends on why its beat irregularly and how its beating irregularly... i would have what you call an Echo or Echo cardiogram, its a test for blood flow of your heart.. i worked at a hospital for 3 years and that's how they check for why the heart is acting a certain way... so see your doctor and have him get you an Echo and see whats going on..
