PVCs/irregular heartbeat relieved by alcohol?

This "revelation" has me a bit confused. I experience numerous instances of what I assume are PVCs on a min/min basis.

I've experienced almost a complete temporary halt of PVCs due to moderate alcohol consumption.

Which leads me to a very 'amateuristic' and possibly ill-informed diagnostic cause of the PVCs, which is anxiety (reasons unknown).
Either the consumption of alcohol is effecting the cause of the PVCs in a positive manner, or my awareness after the consumption has decreased, to the point where I am not as focused on the frequency of the PVCs, and do not notice them.

Some background on the anxiety; I experience "butterflies" daily, and am unable to identify a cause. I'm always hyper-aware of situations, and the possible outcomes of them, always "on-edge" so to speak. Alcohol consumption retards these feelings.

Due to my line of work (military), I'm hesistant to bring this to the attention of any affiliated medical personnel.

Thoughts?

Negative - vampire_kitti. I am no longer deployed, so I'm not putting anyone at risk. This developed while I was deployed. I just want to avoid a medical discharge.

To clarify, I don't consume alcohol when not on leave, or not deployed.

This is very possible. The "butterflies" you are experiencing are probably heart palpitations. The etiology of palpitations is very possibly a result of an anxiety or panic disorder. Alcohol in many situations temporarily relieves the physical symptoms of anxiety.
Have you noticed that your anxiety is worse in the days following a night of drinking? If it is, this could very well be true.
However, do not use alcohol as a way of self medicating. Please see a therapist outside of the military. You need to be properly diagnosed and treated so that you don't continually get worse. Your medical records are protected by federal law.

Thank you for serving our country! I don't know you, but I am very proud! My brother leaves for Iraq tomorrow.

You know, I am kind of at a loss. I have been asking other nurses that I work with what they think and we really cannot find a connection here. The only thing we could come up with is a Somatization disorder. This is directly linked to Post traumatic stress disorder and Anxiety disorders. Gastrointestinal symptoms are among the most common complaints with somatoform disorders.

Alcohol is a depressant, it slows down your whole system including your heartbeat which, and it does also make you less aware. The negative however outweighs the positive, especially if you're in the military and you need to be focused. I don't understand how they let you in with an irregular heart beat and what sounds like some sort of anxiety disorder, you are putting your own life at risk and the lives of men you are supposed to be protecting.

There is a condition known as "Holiday Heart". It's a little different than PVC's, but generally it's from alcohol consumption, and usually occurs after quite a 'binge', similar to what one may do on a 'holiday.' It's atrial arrhythmia's, like runs of atrial fib or flutter. The heart may go in and out of the rhythm. People do describe the feelings as 'fluttering' and sometimes in the midepigastric region. I can guess that the alcohol is just numbing your awareness of the PVC's. Many people have them, and the one's that need treatment are usually the ones that "feel" them. I've watched people are heart monitors for 30 years, and I can guarantee that ALOT of people have them, and just live with them. Usually they're dangerous duriing a heart attack or if the person has symptoms like pain, shortness of breath, etc. Good luck, thanks for your service!!!!!!
