Irregular heartbeat and discomfort in evening and nighttime....?

Lately I have been having a problem feeling like my heart is beating very iregular, but this only seems to occur at night when i'm getting ready to go to bed.
As soon as it gets to be about 9m or so, i strat to get ready for bed, same as usual, but as soon as i lay down I start feeling the heart palpitations. Its not painful but very bothersome and scary to me. I also have a weird feeling in my throught when this happens....anyone have similiar symptoms and if so, any clues to what might be wrong?
also, i have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder when i was 7 ( i am 21) but dont feel lik this is the cause.

Have you recently started any medications...such as anti-depressants? Or maybe pain meds such as darvocet for example? I have experienced exactly the same symptoms that you are describing when I was on anti-depressants and some other meds...there are many medicines that can do this. If you are not on any medicines, you should at least see a doctor about the problem.

i had the same thing about 2 years ago for at least two months. it really made me nervous. it went away and the only thing i could think of was i was painting a lot and it must have been the fumes. have you been around chemicals or paint, household cleaners lately?

I have had heart disease and also just happen to be a registered nurse. I too have palpitations which sometimes make me crazy. I have also already had my heart beat modified thru a procedure called an ablation.
If I were you, I think I would tell my doctor about it. He may refer you to a cardiologist for what is called a 24 hour holter monitor. This is applied in the heart center at your hospital and records your heart rythm (EKG) for a 24 or 48 hour period and sometimes longer, depending on how long the doctor tells you to leave it on. When the time is over, you just remove the patches from your chest or return to the place where they put it on and they will remove it for you. Your heart doctor will read the monitor and write up a list of what kind of beats your heart has been having for the period its on and all kinds of interesting things. This will help your doctor determine what kind of irregular heart beats your having so he can treat them if needed.
On the positive side,,,, many people have palpitations and most of them are just benign and not treated.

Arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) is a VERY serious condition with equally serious consequences. You can tell your heart is out of rhythm quite easily by feeling run down very fast, excessive tiredness, and generally having a hard time doing regular things, as a huge strain is being put on the heart. Medicines are prescribed to regulate the heart, one that comes to the top of my head-Tikosyn, or more serious procedures may go on if your system doesn't agree with the pills. Do you find it harder to go to sleep when you feel your heart is out of rhythm, as though your body has a harder time to settle down?

If you feel like your heart isn't beating regularly, I urge you to see a doctor.

i used to suffer from bad palpitations and it scared the hell out of me
especially when my mum passed away a few weeks before that
she died of heart problems, so i thought i was going to die too
my heart would beat very, very fast, and i will get panic attacks.
it was so bad, i would cry and be afraid to sleep, in case i won't wake up
i recorded the times of happenings and rushed to the doctor.
he said my palpitations was due to stress.
u see, my mum was a single parent and i'm the oldest of 3 kids. thinking of my new responsibilities made me stressed a great deal
he took an ecg, which is like to test the heart beat, took my blood pressure to make sure that i did not get my mum's illness (it is genetic)
he gave me some meds and i only have to take them twice
everytime i feel a panic attack coming, i will try to calm down and think of something else, and it's not easy, i feel like my soul is leaving my body
im fine now, after 4 years
i hope u see a doctor. better be safe

very serious if its what i think it might be

if you feel any of these, i urge to consult a doc ASAP!
palpitations(abnormal heart beats), dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath and chest discomfort.
also if you are finding you are getting sick it could lead to serious heart effects

i dont want to scare you but this is what happens:
when a irregular heart beat occurs and continues the body will try and fix it, some consequnses of this is heart attack and stroke...

PLEASE SEE A DOCTOR ABOUT THIS!

I have the same problem. I had been having anxiety and panic attack symptoms for a few months also accompanied by irregular heartbeat at times. I went to the cardiologist and they put me on a drug called Nadolol, it helped with the irregularity in my heartbeat but I still feel very distinct palpaltations at night right before I go to sleep. The cardiologist has told me that it is most likely me working myself up every night because I expect it to happen and it's also playing on my anxiety. To be safe you should probably go to the doctor, but I found that laying on my left side for about 20 minutes before I fall asleep helps to ease the discomfort. Also, you could maybe try watching TV or reading a book right up until you fall asleep to try to keep your mind off of it.
