Question about irregular heartbeats.? |
I've been experiencing irregular heartbeats lately. At first I felt a "fluttery" feeling in my chest, this has happened on and off for a long time. Within the past 6 months it occurs several times a week. about a week ago I was laying in bed and could feel my heart in my head (as usual), only it "skipped" a beat it seemed. Then I took my blood pressure at home, and an irregular heart beat symbol showed up on the screen of the monitor. This has happened a couple more times (the symbol on the screen) the other day. I've had tests (ekg, holtor monitor, thyroid and now waiting for 2d echo results) and the monitor failed to show anything but rapid heart beat. Could these irregularities be a sign of something more serious, or just "normal" things that happen sometimes? I am 28 years old btw, and a smoker for 10 years - I admit I don't exercise like I should either. I've also been on Ultram for a few years now. My cardio doc hasn't really found anything yet, or answered questions. update: 2d echocardiogram came out "normal", still doesn't explain the irregular beats...been off caffeine for about 2 weeks now, still having the episodes...oh well. thanks you guys I've had something similar to me happen and I did the same thing, ekg, having to wear a heart monitor and so forth and they never did figure out what was wrong with me. So this 'skipping' of heart beats is actually called heart palpitations. And it does happen to regular people, with regular hearts. In fact it's happened to me. A few times a week isn't all too serious. But if it does increase to like couple times in an hour, that's when you should get a check from the doctor. Also, smoking wouldn't exactly help any existent problems. I also have them not as bad as i used to though. I am 28 non-smoker. I completely eliminated caffeine, for the majority they are gone but ime and time I can feel them, I also made a trip to the doc and he basically said I was as healthy as can be and if i lost weight I could live to be 125...?!?!?!
