Iron!! Whats the best way to get it.....?

I've been prescribed iron tablets but they really don't agree with me, I've tried taking them a few times now. I try and eat cereal fortified with iron and I know drinking fresh orange juice increases your absorption of iron due to the vitamin C, any other ideas how i could increase my iron intake without having to take iron tablets?

Iron pills do the same thing to me. They upset my tummy something awful!
Try only taking a half dose and make sure you take it with food. You are on the right track in making sure that your vitamin C is up so it helps the iron absorb better.
Eat dark leafy veggies. Those are full of iron: spinach, collard greens, kale....and even Romain lettuce has some.
You might also want to eat the following: raisins, nuts, beans, lentils and peas.
You'll want to avoid coffee, tea, and most alcohols if you're eating a meal that you've designed to increase your iron. Those have proven to block the iron absorption.
Good luck!

eat liver

guinness

Green Vegetables basically- spinach. Also dark chocolate.

Liver, Guinness or black pudding.

liver irich in iron and guinness my nan swears by it!!!

Lots of red meat, chicken and other meats. Nuts, more cereals; stuff like that.

Just eat a very balanced diet.

Red meat is a good source of iron and drinking guiness, this is what the doctor said to my misses the other week

Liver
Spinach
Cabbage
Bitter dark chocolate (70%)

Iron tablets will make you really constipated.

Eat some Liver with some Fava Beans and a nice Bottle of Chianti.

Spatone is a 100% natural iron supplement. No GPs or consultants here recommend their patients anything else, and it's available over the counter. It's much gentler and better tolerated than tablets, with no side effects I've come across.

green leafy vegatables

You can't beat natural choice's like greens - spinach- even liver these are all strong in iron, my favourite is liver and bacon casserole with mushrooms onions and fresh peas or broad beans even butter beans with chunks of potato all cooked in the same pot, saves washing up lots of pans too.
If you want extra flavour add a nice glass of red wine or port for something different so long as it is rich in colour it all adds to the flavour,. if you don't like to cut up liver ask the butcher to cut it into bite size slices so all you have to do is tip it in the pot and cook it slowly in the oven on a moderate heat, it's also cheap to buy.

I heard that Liver is good for iron, but that is discusting.
