Iron overload or iron deficiency?? I'm not sure... HELP?!?

Well, I'm 15 years old, and last year I had gone to the doctor for a regular check-up. I feel that I should have wondered about this previously... but, when I was younger, the doctors had told me that i had iron overload due to an inherited factor from my dad... then last year, another doctor told me that I was lacking the iron; I was an inch away from having amenia. Is it possible to lose that much iron in about three years with the same diet?? I have been eating the same way since I was a small kid, so I'm extremely confused. o.O I have no idea if it's just a random occurence or if one of my doctors had made an incorrect analysis... =/

My friends have also jokingly said that I might be a haemophiliac... I doubt it, though... I do have frequent nose bleeds, but they are due to changes in the temperature. However, my lip has bled for an hour twice... the wounds were a bit deep, I suppose, but an HOUR?! Grrr. Am I just being a paranoid and worried teen? =.=

Mhmm... ever since I was about... 5?? They said that I had I had too much iron, and it was like this for about 6-8 years... I didn't go to the doctor for a while after that =/ I think puberty did make the levels go down... I was 11... is a probable reason?

Chances are your just a little paranoid. If you were a hemophiliac you'd know by know. Your lip bleeding like that is normal. Just think of how often you move your mouth and your lips stretch and contract. It makes it hard for your blood to clot if your constantly tearing the clot open again. As far as the iron thing goes there are many things that can affect iron levels. The biggest thing to look at is did you hit puberty between those times? We all know that puberty is a life changing event and that could possibly explain it. If your a female, getting your period may effect it because of the blood loss. However I'm not a doctor and I can't say for sure. Your best bet is to get a second option on the condition. What I can tell you is that an Iron deficiency is serious, but very manageable, so don't hesitate to get checked again. I hope I helped

Well if you are a girl it may be due to your periods. That is one of the main causes of loss of iron in women. Yes your levels can go down overtime. I am anemic and over the course of 3 years it went down from normal to a 2. I was so sick. It only took 2 months to build it back up to 11.5. My doctor said it was because of the periods. I would have them check it again and request to see the levels.
