Iron deficiency? suggestions for foods....? |
doc said I am iron deficient. what are some foods I can eat that are high in iron? what did this come from? I have been lightheaded, nauseous, and very sleepy. Is this from the lack of iron? * is sausage or bacon okay? Yes, those are all symptoms of anemia (low iron). Red meat and dark green leafy vegetables are both high in iron, and it would probably do you some good to take a supplement like Slow Fe also. You will be feeling better in no time! Exactly what chelle said..I used to be anemic too kellogs raisin bran. It has more iron than a steak or most iron rich foods. But you really should get yourself some iron sulphate supplements from your doctor or pharmacist (they keep it behind the counter) and get your iron levels up quicker if your having symptoms like fatigue. The quicker you get your iron levels up, the better you will feel. Iron suppliments do make you contipated though, so the raisin bran will help. Note: Iron supplements are poisonous if kids swallow them accidently. I had this issue before, but it was because I was having some internal bleeding. Sometimes it can come from a prolonged menses as well. Good foods to eat would be leafy greens such as spinach. Sweet potatoes, liver, beets, and a good ole ONE A DAY vitamin is good as well. The symptoms you describe are from a lack of iron.... yes just try liver and red meat excessive menstrual bleeding |
