soppose to take iron pills but havent

i have had iron deficiency anemia since i was 12 due to heavy periods (a lot of women also have this) so i have been taking a multi-vitamin since i began menstruating to keep my iron levels up and i had no problems getting pregnant, in fact, when i found out i was pregnant i was told by my doctor to take 325 milligrams of iron in addition to my prenatal vitamin every day...i also put off taking the iron pills because i was told by some people that they can make constipation (which i have already had problems with during my pregnancy) worse but because i did not take them when i was told to my iron levels got really low so i started taking them about 1 month ago and i have not had any problems with my pregnancy... i do not believe that taking the pills will impact your chances of conceiving and carrying your baby to term otherwise your doctor would not have told you to take them...i also do not believe that they make your chances of conceiving any better either, that said, it could not hurt to make sure that your body is not deficient in anyway before trying to conceive...so i would suggest that you take your iron pill as prescribed along with a prenatal vitamin everyday that way your body is up to speed on everything that you and your baby will need before you get pregnant again...i hope this helps and baby dust to you!!!

Yeah, iron is extremely important during pregnancy. By the time you reach full-term in your pregnancy you actually have about 40% more blood in your system than when not pregnant, so your iron needs increase greatly. Plus, you have to help bub build up their iron stores too. A baby's iron stores should last until they're about six months old, which is when they generally start needing lots of solids. Baby's without iron are terribly unhealthy, and it can cause a lot of developmental problems.
I had an iron problem about a year ago, so I started taking a liquid iron supplement. Liquid supplements (whether they be herbal, vitamins or minerals) are absorbed by the body much faster so take effect more quickly. Only downside is that liquid iron supplements, no matter how much juice you or the manufacturer mix it with, still tastes just like what the name implies - liquid iron!!
Liquid or pill, get some into you. You need it :)

I'm not really sure about iron pills as far as helping you become pregnant. I have heard taking folic acid before you become pregnant helps your chances of being fertile and is also exteremly healthy for the baby even before you know you are pregnant.

When I first spoke to my GYN and told him we were trying he told me to get on 800 mcg of folic acid right away. When I did that, I became pregnant the following month. One of the books my husband is reading says that the folic acid helps fertility. I remember because he was teasing me that maybe we would have twins since I was taking them, lol. (I don't want twins).

Anyway, I'm sorry I don't know anything about the iron pills. I know you can become anemic (sp?) easily while pregnant so it's a good idea to be taking your prenatals. Any type of vitamins help increase your chances of becoming pregnant. Good Luck!
