Nutritionist needed! Tea vs. iron...?


I was nearly deferred when I gave blood last week because my iron was so low. Now I'm eating liver and other iron-rich foods, but I read that black or pekoe tea can interfere with the body's metabolizing of dietary iron. I do like my tea. What is the "safe" interval between consumption of iron-rich foods and the drinking of black tea so that iron absorbtion wil not be impeded?

I'd cut down on the tea to 3-4 cups/day (or less) - just remember that eating a lot of calcium will interfere with iron absorption too...
