Iron overdose?

Please read my entire post before replying.

I've taken a multivitamin for the past 4-6 months and I've recently read more in-depth about iron and come to the realization that it's very likely that it's the cause behind all of my current health issues -- ones that have put me on the brink of my sanity.

What specifically will happen to the iron in my body now that I will no longer be taking a multivitamin? What does the body do in this case? (I know I could go and read about it -- again -- but I want to see what you all have to say about it; it is important to me.)

And my only other question is: Will I be okay? I know that that's "vague," or "insert your choice of word here," but really, there are things indicative of iron OD that have been going on with me (nothing that requires that I go to the ER, but nevertheless I'd say a 6 out of 10 on a scale of badness) that have really been burdensome in my life, and I want some kind of reassurance that my body will take care of this in due time, since I am indeed making the change.

Thanks in advance for replies, etc.

If you are overloaded with iron you can get iron plaque on your artery walls like cholesterol deposits that can clog up your arteries.

Iron overdoses cannot be caused by multivitamins if you are only taking 1 a day as recommended. Iron supplements can only cause an overload if you take more than the recommended amount. Iron overloads are very uncommon and are usually due to some medical problem. Most people are slightly deficient in iron.

If you are worried about too much iron then you can reduce your iron levels by donating blood. Don't eat iron rich food such as liver which contains loads of iron and don't eat nuts which also contain plenty of iron. Also remember that the more vitamin C you take the more iron you absorb. Red meat contains readily absorbable iron and is often recommended for people who are deficient in iron. If you are deficient in iron don't donate blood.

Your body makes it's own iron and an iron supplement is ONLY needed if you are anemic. I'm glad you stopped that vitamin. Just make sure from now on that if you get multi-vitamins, that they don't include iron.

If you had iron toxicity, you would be very sick (like in the hospital sick). But I've included a link that talks about it. If you have some of these symptoms, you do need to see your doctor and have some blood work done to see what your levels are:

When you overdose on iron, you become constipated and your poop turns a blackish color. You will literally poop out the extra iron.
However, if you have way extreme overdose or any further questions, you should see your doctor.

no,it's not .
