PLEASE ANSWER!! Iron deficiency!!?

I have a severe Iron deficiency in my body! My doctor said that the amount of ion in my body is to the point of non exsistance. And my Hemoglobin levels stay very low also (8.2)!I have been dealing with this for about a year now! I have been taking Iron tablets twice a day for six months and no change in my numbers at all! So my doctor ordered some tests to see if i was bleeding internally somewhere. My doctor did and endoscopy and a colonoscopy on me today and said that everything was ok!!! I had no bleeding or anything unusual! He did take a few samples for a biopsy to test ( he said to see if i had an absorption problem) He said that everthing look very good inside!!

But that still dosent's solve my problem on why my levels continue to drop even with the iron pills!! I am 17 years old and i don't have heavy periods!! Does anyone know what could be the problem has anyone experienced this!! What further tests should i be prepared for!
Thanks for all your help!

Also i have had my B-12 checked and it is ok!!

And I eat pretty healthy and try to eat a balanced diet I also exercise regurally so i am not sure why my levels stay so low!! I have been so tired and i have severe headaches!! I just want to feel better!! Have any advice!

I understand you're concerned and you have every right to be. I definitely recommend you push to see a specialist. There is obviously an underlying problem which needs to be uncovered. You may need a bone marrow test next, as this is where the manufacture and maturation of red blood cells takes place.

I wish you the best of luck.

THEY SAY FISH IS RICH IN IRON & MOST MEATS ARE. YOU SHOULD LOOK IT ONLINE.

i was aneimic but i dont think that mine was as severe as yours...i took iron pills but it also helps if you eat meat like fish and chicken and any red meats...so if your not a vegetarian you can try that..but good luck.. i hope everything goes ok

hey vitamin c helps iron absorption find out more and go ahead

You must be feeling so very tired! I have been through anemia before and it is hard to stay awake in the morning.

I would see a different doctor if I were you.

There is also a book called Physician's Guide to Natural Healing. There will be a section in there about anemia and some things you can do naturally to help. Maybe there is something else you are ingesting to cause the iron to chelate.

My girlfriend is also iron deficient and has to get iron shots. She told me that eating lentils has helped her a great deal and so far she has been able to avoid needing the fushions. You might try lentil soup. It is a rich source of iron.

I WOULD CHANGE DOCTORS AND TO GO A SPECIALIST. No one on here is qualified to answer. You could have a serious health problem. Call your insurance company and tell them the situation so they can recommend a specialist. It seems as if this doctor is not helping at all.

maybe aska pharmacist or go to another doctor for a second opinion. doctors often make mistakes bcuz they think they know it all without thoroughly investigating the whole problem.

Are you a vegetarian? Are you taking any other vitamins or supplements? Total cereal has 18 mg of iron per cup!! There are also many intestinal parasites that may cause iron deficiency. Inflammatory bowel disease and ulcers can also cause low iron levels. Just try and eat foods high in iron on top of taking your supplements. Don't fall in to the typical weight obsessed teenager trap...it's a sure fire way to drive your iron levels down.
